Papo Hapo had the honour of being invited by UNESCO to the Partners’ Forum at their HQ in Paris as a beneficiary of Stories X WIA. The focus of the forum was to highlight the important role of multi-stakeholder partnerships in advancing access and inclusivity in the global animation industry.

During the presentation titled “Empowering Diversity: Gender in the Film & Television Industry,” held with the participation of WIA (Women in Animation), our Co-founder and Executive Producer, Irmak Atabek, took the stage to shed light on Papo Hapo’s journey. Chosen for the Stories X WIA program, this project exemplifies African animation, featuring a female producer and skilled women writers, Wangari Grace and Damaris Iringu, who bring storytelling magic to life.

Before the panel, UNESCO has signed a cooperation with WIA in line with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. UNESCO’s gender message is clear: ensuring equal opportunities and empowering girls and boys, women and men with the knowledge, values, attitudes, and skills to address gender disparities are vital prerequisites for building a sustainable future for all. Moreover, the creation of WIA Nepal is announced, along with the collaboration between WIA Nepal and the notable Nepalese animation studio Incessant Rain Studios to empower women in animation. https://womeninanimation.org/wia-unesco/

Let’s strive for a world where equal opportunities and empowerment reign for all because a sustainable world is a world of equality.
